On Saturday, August 23, 2008, Supper-in-the-Field at the lake will take place at Kippichewan on Clear Lake, in Riding Mountain National Park. Prepared by an impressive team of partners, the event will be eco-friendly as well, with biodegradable plates, drinking glasses, utensils and napkins all going into the compost site at Riding Mountain National Park after dinner.
Created in 2004, Parkland Tourism’s Supper-in-the-Field was the first rural culinary tourism event in Manitoba created in honour of Fall Suppers. Regional chefs in partnership with the Elkhorn Resort prepared veritable feasts to be enjoyed al fresco, on a meadow under a huge white tent with wines and music and all the ambiance expected of fine dining.
This popular Parkland culinary event has evolved into a feast of fresh and flavourful organic and regional foods.Menu items now include a variety of organic meats, such Black Berkshire pork from Manitoba Pork, chicken and bison. Zero carbon organic wine and Manitoba beer will be available as well. Organic breads and oils along with locally-grown organic vegetable and greens dishes will be followed by desserts featuring local and organic fruit and berries.
All foods will be prepared by Chefs Ben Kramer and sous chef Aron Epp from the Dandelion Eatery, in partnership with Mandel Hitzer from Fresh Café, Winnipeg; Constance Menziens; Anna Mandziuk from the new Anna’s Indulgence in Brandon; and Kelly Ditz, a caterer in Winnipeg and a Parkland organic farmer in the summer.
Tall Grass Prairie Bakery, The Forks and Prairie Seasons Bakery, Onanole, rounds out the ensemble cast of culinary talent.
Local musicians and entertainment will cap off the evening.
Come by car from Onanole, follow a hiking trail to the site, cross the lake by boat, or join a special return cruise on the Martese from the Wasagaming dock. All dinner tickets include a 24- hour pass to the Park.
