The Eastern Manitoba Concert Association (ECMA) has an impressive track record. Over the past 35 years, the Pinawa-based volunteer organization has presented more than 200 performances of Manitoban , Canadian and international artists – including at least 25 Juno Award winners, and even Grammy and Oscar Winners.
Buffy St. Marie, Ian Tyson, Stan Rogers, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Natalie McMaster are a few of the high profile performers who have entertained subscribers from Pinawa, Lac du Bonnet, Seven Sisters, Pine Falls, Beausejour, Whiteshell Park and the surrounding countryside. Each season, the ECMA presents a series of seven concerts that provide a variety of musical experiences. The coming season offers a scope that ranges from traditional to classical, from African to country. Under the traditional category, Everything Fitz is a group of Canada’s finest young musicians, the Fitzgerald family from Ontario who mingle old-time, bluegrass and wing music in three-part fiddle harmonies in their October 23rd show. On November 25th, the sounds of Africa hit the stage with Black Umfolosi 5, a township a capella group from Zimbabwe.
They combine rhythm, melody and harmony with brilliantly choreographed dance to create an energetic and engaging performance. Friday, January 22nd marks the appearance of Quartango, an intriguing blend of classical music and a passion for tango.
The four classically trained musicians have charmed audiences around the world with their vast, energetic and refined repertoire. The season concludes on Friday April 9th with The Wright Songs, an acoustic evening with Michelle Wright, one of Canada’s most widely recognized and awarded country singers.
